Collection related to the service of 413394 John Maxwell Knight RAAF
Identification portrait of 413376 Leading Aircraftman Victor Douglas Guthrie from Narromine, NSW. He enlisted in the RAAF at the age of 18 on 17 August 1941, qualified as a pilot and was promoted to Warrant Officer. On 15 May 1944 he was appointed a Pilot Office and his final rank was as Wing Commander on 1 January 1967. During the Second World War, he completed his operational training in the United Kingdom and was posted to India in 1943 where he saw operational service. At the end of the Second World War, he was posted to Japan for two years with the British Commonwealth Occupational Force (BCOF). He was awarded an Air Force Cross (AFC) in 1952. He assumed command of RAAF Transport Flight Vietnam where he served from November 1965 to July 1966, took part in many operational missions and was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC). O22015 Wing Commander Guthrie served until his appointment was terminated on 1 May 1970.
