Description
Identification portrait of 413388 Aircraftman 2 (AC2) Richard Mortimer Newark Jacombs, of Macarthur Parade, Dulwich Hill, NSW. A clerk prior to enlisting on 17 August 1941, he completed his initial training at Bradfield Park, NSW and was later attached to the RAF. While attached to 463 Squadron, RAF, Flying Officer (FO) Jacombs, took off from Waddington , England airfield on Operation Schweinfurt in a Lancaster LH444 JO-D with a crew of 7. FO Jacombs died on 25 February 1944, when the Lancaster was shot down over Schweinfurt, Bavaria, Germany. He was 30 years of age. FO Jacombs is buried in the Durnbach War Cemetery, Bavaria, Germany.
