DPCU under-armour shirt : Private A D Fox-Lane, 6 Battalion, RAR
Private purchase DPCU (Disrupted Pattern Camouflage Uniform) long-sleeved under-armour shirt. The shirt's collar, saddle and sleeves are in DPCU material. The torso is a brown light-weight material with an open weave at the sides and armpits. The neck closes with a zipper fixture. Each cuffless sleeve has two horizontal seams, and features on the upper arm a pocket that closes with a side zipper fixture. On each pocket are three vertical Velcro strips. Sewn to the inside rear of the neck band is a black and red maker's label and care instructions. Handwritten in black ink on the collar is 'FOX'. Size is Small.
Reflecting modifications originally made by individual soldiers to their shirts in the field, the body of this commercially produced under-armour shirt is a lightweight T-shirt cotton rather than the heavier weight material used in general issue shirts. This alteration provides the advantages of a lighter, more comfortable shirt when wearing body armour in a hot climate. At the same time, the shirt retains the protective and camouflage advantages of the DPCU material on the exposed sleeves.
This shirt was worn by Private Fox-Lane, 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR) during the final months of his deployment with MTF-1 (Mentoring Task Force - One) in Afghanistan. He was wearing this shirt during the Battle of Derapet on 24 August 2010. It was for his actions in this engagement, one of his colleagues, Corporal Daniel Keighran was awarded the Victoria Cross for Australia.
