Collection related to the service of 413394 John Maxwell Knight RAAF
Outdoor portrait of 413152 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Mervyn Arthur Hines RAAF, of Albury, NSW. A butcher prior to enlisting on 16 August 1941, he completed his initial training and progressed to the Intermediate and Advanced Training Course 20 for pilots at No. 7 Service Flying Training School (7SFTS), RAAF Station Deniliquin, NSW, Australia held from 9 February 1942 to 25 June 1942. After training, he embarked for the United Kingdom for service with the RAF where he was attached to No. 114 Squadron RAF, which in 1944 was equipped with Boston III and IIIA bombers and operating from its base at Marcianise, Italy. On 31 March 1944, during on operations over Italy, Warrant Officer (WO) Hines was killed. He is buried in the Moro River Canadian War Cemetery, Ortona, Abruzzo, Italy. WO Hines was 23 years of age.
