Studio portrait of Captain (Capt) Cyril Herbert Dodson Lane, 18th Battalion. A career soldier, Capt Lane had served in Rabaul in 1914, prior to applying for a commission in the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Forces on 14 August 1914. He was promoted to Major on 1 June 1916. Maj Lane was killed in action during the charge at Hill 60, the Gallipoli Peninsula, on 19 August 1915. He was 27 years old.
