Brigadier (Brig) Augustine William Wardell, MC and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill visit Australian soldiers in Britain. Brig Wardell served in the First World War as a Lieutenant with the 10th Machine Gun Company. He was awarded the Military Cross, and as his citation states for: "conspicuously good work in connexion [sic] with the drawing up of defence schemes and the preparations for offensive operations" . Brig Wardell served as an Australian representative on the Imperial War Cabinet during the Second World War to ensure welfare standards for Australian forces were met.
