Ju 88 A-4 aluminium skin fragments, Tobruk
Description
Three Junkers Ju 88 aluminium aircraft skin fragments which are heavily torn, punctured and misshapen from the explosion which destroyed the aircraft. Each is approximately the same size and each displays evidence of original dark green and grey camouflage with flaking black interior paint on the reverse. There are some torn rivet holes in each piece.
History / Summary
Remnants of a Ju 88 shot down over Tobruk during a raid by 43 enemy aircraft late on the afternoon of 27 August 1941. The Junkers Ju 88 twin engined bomber was apparently struck in its loaded bomb rack by an anti-aircraft shell.
