Improvised pipe: unknown private, 2/48 Battalion
Description
Carved wooden pipe - the bowl and shank are carved from a hard wood, with the shank joineded with a piece of brass bullet cartridge, and the stem carved from a piece of bone. The joint between the brass and the shank is loose and the carving on the bone still visible. The lower part of the bowl is still packed with burnt tobacco.

The Military History Team wrote for this object: "Constructed by a private of the 2/48 Aust. Inf. Bn. From a piece of pick handle at Tobruk", but failed to record the name of the private.
