AUSTRALIA MEETS FRANCE IN THIS PICTURE OF FLIGHT-SERGEANT FRED WOOD OF ADELAIDE, FRATERNISING WITH THE CHIEF GENDARME IN A NORMANDY VILLAGE. FLIGHT-SERGEANT WOOD IS A FITTER OF THE RAAF, IN CHARGE OF THE MAINTENANCE OF A COMPLETE SPITFIRE SQUADRON. HE WAS THE FIRST MEMBER OF A SOUTH AUSTRALIAN GROUND CREW TO LAND IN FRANCE AND HAS JUST BEEN MENTIONED IN DESPATCHES.
