Group portrait of nine unidentified seamen on board HMAS Melbourne. By the sooty faces of some, they have been coaling the ship. With HMAS Sydney, the Melbourne carried out alternate patrols of the Caribbean (based in Jamaica) and the North Atlantic off Long Island (based at Halifax) between 1915 and 1916, as part of the North American and West Indies Squadron.
