Netherlands East Indies Klewang Native Police Sword
Description
Netherlands East Indies Klewang Native Police Sword. The hilt has a sheet steel half basket guard with three cutouts and a wrist strap slot which attaches to the pommel with a slotted head bolt. The plain wooden grips are attached to the tang with three rivets. The curved single edged blade has a single fuller on each side to within 210 mm of the clipped back point. The right ricasso is stamped with a crown over B.
History / Summary
This type of sword was originally issued to the Netherlands East Indies Native Police although many were captured by the Japanese and used as a machete. This example has been sharpened and was captured at Balikpapan.
