Description

Japanese Type 96 telescopic machine gun sight in khaki painted canvas case. This instrument is for use with the Japanese Type 92 7.7mm Heavy Machine Gun. The sight is attached to the weapon by a dovetailed bracket with a spring clip and a wing headed clamp. This type of optical sight is mainly used as a dial sight for indirect fire, the displacement is controlled by the milled drum on the left and the angle of sight by the milled drum in the centre. The zero and certain graduations of the range scale are marked with luminous paint. Markings: Translation of white Japanese characters on the lid of the case "2 of 2". Impressed into mounting "1343/ 4 x 10 degrees/ JAPAN OPTICAL INDUSTRY COMPANY INC. (NIKKO)/ No.3513/ JES (Japanese for screw)". Capture tag says "TELESCOPIC SIGHT FOR MODEL 92 (1932) 7.7mm MG (JUKI) MAUSU ISLAND. 31/51 AUST Inf BN (AIF) MIL HISTORY SECTION".
