Studio portrait of 482 Private (Pte) James Gavin. A station hand from Toowoomba, Queensland, he embarked from Melbourne on 9 November 1915 with the 31st Battalion aboard HMAT Wandilla (A62). Pte Gavin was promoted to Lance Corporal (L Cpl) on 29 April 1916. L Cpl Gavin was killed in action on 19 July 1916 in France. He was 30 years old.
