Studio portrait of 3849 Private (Pte) Alfred Thomas Howe of West Thebarton, SA. A coachman prior to enlistment, Pte Howe embarked with the 9th Reinforcements, 27th Battalion from Adeliade aboard HMAT Miltiades (A28) on 7 February 1916 . Pte Howe was killed in action in France on 5 November 1916, aged 30 years.
