Arthur Kuring and Herman August Kuring
Studio portrait of Major Herman August Kuring and Wireless Officer Arthur Kuring. Herman Kuring enlisted on 18 August 1914 in the 8th Battalion with service number 626. He embarked at Melbourne on the Troop Transport Ship A24 Benalla and returned to Australia on A32 Thermistocles. He again served in the Second World War and enlisted from the Reserve of Officers as a Major for duty with the 10th Garrison Battalion, Perth WA. He died on the 3 September 1941 at Wilson's Bay, Rottnest Island due to an accidental drowning; his body was never found. WO Kuring served with the Royal Australian Navy prior to enlistment on the 15 October 1918 with a depot unit in the AIF at Broadmeadows, Victoria. He served for 72 days within Australia before discharge on 24 December 1918.
