75 mm Type 88 Anti-aircraft gun Gunner's Clinometer in Wooden Box
Japanese 75mm Type 88 Anti-aircraft gun gunners quadrant in wooden box. It consists of a stainless steel body with a curved graduated scale. A hole for the pivot of the arm is bored through it. The arm has a bubble spirit level attached and also has graduations. This incorporates adjustments for both tangent angle and angle of sight. Markings: In black Japanese characters on the lid of the box "BOX FOR CLINOMETER/ No._/ TYPE 88 7cm AA gun". On inside of lid "1941 and arsenal mark". Impressed into instrument "Osaka character? and 47".
This device was used for determining the correct elevation of the weapon to which it was attached. Clamped onto the barrel or breech of the weapon, the desired elevation would be set on the quadrant, and then the barrel manually elevated until the bubble was level.
