Description
1939 second award bar to the 1914 Iron Cross First Class. Obverse: A German Nazi eagle with out stretched wings clutching a swastika in a wreath and mounted on a frame bar dated '1939'. Reverse: Plain with a vertical brooch pin.
History / Summary
Awarded to military personnel who had received the Iron Cross 1st Class during the First World War and had qualified for a further award after the Cross was reinstituted by Adolf Hitler in 1939. This medal is part of a collection of Second World War German orders and decorations acquired by Flight Lieutenant K G Hesketh, RAAF Historical Records Section, who was based in London but who made a number of visits to Germany immediately after the Second World War.
