Periscope from a Japanese Type A Midget Submarine
Description
Body of a periscope from an Imperial Japanese Navy Type A Midget Submarine. The periscope has handles and various metal collars and sleeves in place at the base. There is a 30mm aperture near the base adjacent to which is stamped '6.0 x [a curved arrow] 1.5 x'. The shaft reduces in diameter approximately 495mm from the top where there is a circular viewing aperture measuring 75mm by 60mm. The glass in the aperture is intact. There are remnants of cream-grey paint on this upper section.
