Autographed good luck flag carried by Japanese soldier, Ito Isamu, in New Guinea
Description
Japanese soldier's autographed national flag with slogans and signatures in black ink characters. Presented to Ito Isamu by Fujita Shinjiro, mayor of the village of Toyonishi. Apart from the traditional wish of long-lasting good fortune in war, there is also the phrase 'May your loyalty be firm like Iron stone'. The signatures on the flag are those of Ito's family, and his fellow villagers from Toyonishi.
