History / Summary

Between the first and second world wars a small number of German and Italian Australians supported the fascist organisations which had gained power in their homelands. Local (Ortsgruppe) members of the Nazi Party in Sydney (NSPAP/AO - National Socialist German Workers Party/Foreign Organisation) carried this large swastika flag. Held for safe-keeping at the German Consulate there, it was confiscated from the consulate by Australian authorities at the beginning to the Second World War.
