Description

Cotton national flag with separately sewn-in central red disc. Large black ink characters down the hoist side of the flag translate as 'Selfless devotion to your country'. Around the central disc in a radial pattern are place names, with English translations written above them, both in black ink, of the following places where the owner of the flag saw action : 'Entering the town of Rabaul in 1942', 'Offensive operations in the Solomon Islands', 'Offensive operations in New Guinea', 'Offensive operation at Suleni Airfield, Korongu or Koronda Island (this may be Kanton Island in Phoenix Islands group), 'Oring Island' (may be Orana Island, in Phoenix Islands group).
