SC 250 aerial bomb (Germany)
The SC 250 (Sprengbombe Cylindrisch 250) was an air-dropped general purpose high-explosive bomb built by Germany during World War II and used extensively during that period. It could be carried by almost all German bomber aircraft. The bomb consisted of three sections; the nose cone, the body, and the base plate, to which the four-finned tail is attached. The bomb could be used against below-ground installations up to 8m deep. This example is missing its tail. It is painted in a light olive drab.
This bomb was dropped on No 10 Squadron's airfield in 1940 and subsequently rendered safe by Flying Officer E.I. Long RAAF. The bomb was displayed in the RAAF War Collection in Britain at RAAF Overseas Headquarters, and is shown in the Memorial's photograph SUK11561.
