Description

Type 89 Grenade Discharger. Constructed of steel in the form of a rifled barrel attached to a pedestal and curved butt plate. The trigger which cocks and fires in one operation protrudes through a lengthwise slot in the pedestal. A range adjusting assembly with a knurled knob is attached to the base cap of the barrel. A range scale is attached to the pedestal stem. The discharger is contained in a canvas carry bag with a strap.

History / Summary

This type of discharger is often incorrectly referred to as the 'knee mortar'. The curved base plate is designed to be fired from a tree trunk, log or off the ground.
