Colt Model M1911A1 Pistol : Viet Cong
Description
Colt Model M1911A1 semi-automatic pistol. Frame marked UNITED STATES PROPERTY M1911A1 US ARMY, the serial number and SA. The left side has the patent dates and COLT's PT. F.A. MFG Co, HARTFORD.CT. USA. The pistol has brown plastic grips and is complete with a khaki green nylon lanyard.
History / Summary
This pistol was captured on 13 September 1967 by C Company, 2nd Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR) on Operation Ainslie in Phouc Tuy Province. C Company on leaving an enemy camp contacted 2 Viet Cong in another enemy camp resulting in 1 Viet Cong wounded in action and captured. Recovered in the camp were a French rifle, the .45 pistol and a Chicom claymore type mine.
