Chicom Type 56 SKS Carbine : North Vietnamese Forces
Description
Chicom Type 56 SKS Carbine. Machined steel receiver, bolt and top cocking slide. The left side is marked with 56 in a triangle and the serial number 705726. It has a full wood stock and top hand guard, a pivoting magazine and a trigger guard safety catch. There is a folding blade bayonet at the muzzle that fits into a slot on the fore end. The weapon is complete with a khaki nylon sling and a cleaning rod. The number 40084 is painted onto the left side of the stock.
History / Summary
This weapon was captured in Vietnam by 7 Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (7 RAR). The Type 56 carbine is a copy of the Russian SKS45 carbine developed during the Second World War.
