RAAF Storm Ensign. Written in ink down the hoist are the words 'STORM ENSIGN 77 SQUADRON RAAF KOREA 1952-3'.

History / Summary

RAAF storm ensign which was flown, subject to conditions at Kimpo Air Base (K14), Korea by Headquarters, 77 Fighter Squadron, RAAF. Storm ensigns were smaller than the normal ensign flown at an air base and were used in poor and/or gale force conditions. Related to the service of 03498 Flight Lieutenant (Fl Lt) Kenneth McCullough, born Port Melbourne 11 November 1907. McCullough enlisted in the RAAF on 16 September 1935 and saw service during both the Second World War and the Korean War. In Korea he served as Squadron Adjutant between 20 April and 24 August 1952, earning a mention in dispatches and being made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for 'innovations to food packs which improved service for servicemen'. Fl Lt McCullough was also responsible for ground combat training for all 77 Squadron personnel as well as squadron defence.
