Brow plate (stirnpanzer) for German Steel Helmet
Description
Curved 5 mm steel brow plate, suitable for all First World War German helmet models. The base is slightly flared and the sides have angular recesses that fit over the helmet ventilation lugs. Below these are rectangular slots to which are attached the leather straps used to secure the plate to the helmet. These straps are missing.
History / Summary
The brow plate (stirnpanzer), was fitted to the front of the helmet to provide additional protection to the wearer. However, it's weight (2 kg) meant that it could only be worn for short periods. Approximately 50,000 brow plates were manufactured.
