History / Summary
This was one of three flags taken from a disabled Mark V tank which worked with 13 Battalion during the advance on 8 August 1918. The Unit Diary of the 13th Battalion for August 1918 (AWM4 23/30/46 Part 1 pages 24-26) contains details of liaison with tanks, and notes that the red, white and blue flag indicates that the tank flying it is 'Coming Out' (ie withdrawing from action).
