Japanese soldier's autographed good luck flag captured by members of Z Special Unit, Ranau, North Borneo, 1945
Japanese soldier's autographed national flag bearing signatures and slogans in written in black ink. Apart from the signatures, there is the traditional wish for long-lasting good fortune in war. The name of the owner of the flag has not been written on it. The flag has also been signed in the top right corner in purple indelible pencil by eight members of Z Special unit underneath the words 'DISARMED NIPS RANAU 23.9.45'. The signatures are for C W Ripley, H Forster, J H Veale, J A Hodges, W A Wallace, E W Gore, R B Cocks and A W Hywood. 23.9.45'.
Associated with NX110328 Corporal Leslie 'Les' Arthur Grinham who served with Z Special Force. Grinham was born in Carlton, NSW in March 1922 and enlisted on 21 August 1942. He was discharged on 4 June 1946.
