British Pattern 1845 Infantry Officer's Sword. The hilt is the half basket 1822 Pattern of gilded brass with a crown over the VR royal cypher as a cartouche badge and has a fold down inner edge. The guard has a sword knot slot near the pommel and the grip is wire bound fishskin. Attached to the guard is a leather strap but the acorn knot is missing. The slightly curved Pattern 1845 blade is etched for three quarters of the length on both sides and has the VR royal cypher in the centre of each side. It has a single fuller on both sides that extends to 10 inches of the spear point. The blade has been repolished and the markings on the ricasso have been lost. The scabbard is wood, covered in light brown leather and has a frog strap near the throat to fit the 'Sam Browne' belt equipment.
