French Naval Officer's Sword and Scabbard
Description
French Naval Officer's sword and scabbard. The brass hilt has an elaborate single bar guard having a floral and rope design with a fouled anchor on the quarter basket. There is a small fixed ring attached to the collar for a finger strap. The grip is a green brown bone with horizontal rings. The plain slightly curved blade is stamped on the left side 'Manufacture G.P. Chatellerault Aout 1914' and a roundel with Acier Anglais Garanti Superieur. On the right side is a manufacturers mark with F.B.D. The black leather scabbard as three brass fittings of a chape, locket and centre hanger strap ring.
