History / Summary
Born in Parkes, NSW, in 1897, 1626 Air Mechanic Second Class Jack Edwin McKimm enlisted for service with 3 Squadron Australian Flying Corps on 16 October 1916. He served in France before returning to Australia on 25 September 1919. McKimm served in the militia between the world wars and enlisted for service with the Second AIF on 14 May 1940. He was appointed Deputy Assistant Director of Postal Services the following day. In this capacity he travelled extensively between New Guinea, Queensland and New South Wales and also provided advice to the Navy on provision of Postal Services. He was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on 3 June 1946.
