Trophy cup : 4 Australian Infantry Brigade Boxing Championship, 1917
Description
Sterling silver trophy cup with curved handles projecting above the rim of the cup. The top of each handle has an acanthus leaf pattern. The inside of the cup is silver gilt. The body of the cup bears hall marks for Sheffield in 19176-1917 and a manufacturer's stamp 'JS'. It is also engraved '4TH AUS: INF: BRIGADE BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP FRANCE AUGUST 1917 WON BY 13TH BN. A.I.F.'. The base of the cup is engraved 'CUP VALUE [Pounds] 10:10:0'.
History / Summary
Awarded to members of 13 Battalion's boxing team, when they won the 4th Infantry Brigade's Boxing Competition in France in 1917. The Brigade was composed of 13, 14, 15 and 16 Battalions, AIF.
