Description

HMS "Sirius" entering Port Jackson, was painted in Sydney in 1946; however, the event it depicts occurred on 26 January in 1788. HMS "Syrius", a twenty-gun frigate under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip, entered Port Jackson escorting a fleet of convict transports which were to form the first permanent settlement of Europeans in Australia.
