Detail of "Voyager" at Betano
Description
HMAS Voyager went aground on 25th September, 1942 when disembarking reinforcements at Betano for the Australian Commando in Timor. "Voyager was firmly embedded in the sand when hit by a bomb from Japanese aircraft and the Commander ordered her destruction. Her engine room was blown up and fires started to complete the destruction. Any mobile armament was taken off for use by the land forces.
