First Australian prisoners of war from Malaya arrive in Cairns by catalinas
Description
Large numbers of Australian prisoners of war are arriving at the wharf in Cairns and being greeted by Australian officers and soldiers in uniform. A genial major reassures a POW who has misplaced his hat and boots. On the wharf the women of Cairns provide welcome refreshments and across the bay can be seen the giant flying consolidated Catalina flying boats in which the repatriates were flown from Singapore. Verso depicts two small sketches of the faces of two men.
