Field Marshal Lord Roberts
Description
Field Marshal Lord Roberts (Frederick Sleigh Roberts) PC, KP, GCB, GCSI, GCIE, VC, KG, DCL, LLD, OM was Commander-in-Chief of the British and Australian troops during the Boer War. Australia dispatched 16,175 volunteers to South Africa and a large number of unsuccessful applicants expanded the numbers by finding their own way to South Africa. Roberts and his troops triumphed in the field by capturing the major towns involved in the conflicts.
