The "Euryalus" towing the "Royal Sovereign"
Description
The frigate HMS 'Euryalyus' towing HMS 'Royal Sovereign' after the Battle of Trafalgar. Part of the masts of a wrecked ship is visible in the lower left foreground. Eduardo de Martino was born in Meta, Italy in 1838 and served in the Italian navy. He resigned his commission in 1868 and worked as a painter in Brazil before moving to England in 1875. In 1894 Queen Victoria selected him as her Marine Painter in Ordinary. He died in London in 1912.
