R. C. Church, Darwin
Description
The church was built by the Jesuits. In 1897 it was blown down by a cyclone and re-erected. The transept and sanctuary were added in 1917. The alter is shown in the drawing, is of white-painted wood and the front is decorated by three paintings done by a Sister of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in 1912. Both Australian and American troops congregated to worship in the church which is the only Roman Catholic church in Darwin. In 1945 the Americans widened the church.
