On the SS "Katoomba"
Description
In December 1942 Flying Officer Cedric Emanuel (266681) embarked from Townsville to Port Moresby on the troopship SS "Katoomba" and captured this depiction of Australian soldiers relaxing on the deck. An established commercial artist prior to enlisting Emanuel carried a sketchbook and art materials with him on active service. Throughout 1943 he made over 100 drawings relating to the RAAF, the landscape and the people of New Guinea. Many of which were reproduced in 'Southwest Pacific Sketchbook by Cedric Emanuel' and published by Prentice Hall, Inc. in 1945.
