Pumping out bomb crater, Labuan
Description
Pumping out a bomb crater. In the early days of the job, when water was a rarity and there was none to spare, the deep green pools in the craters were used as laundries and swimming baths, so that even those that were being emptied often presented the appearance of a social occasion - sunburnt bodies splashing about in the water; the sound of enjoyment mingled with the drum-beat of the pumping engine.
