Spinning thread from hemp twine, Changi
Description
Men from the 18th (British) Division Royal Army Ordnance Corps spinning thread from hemp twine with a machine designed and made in the Changi prisoner of war camp by Captain G U Hill and Regimental Sergeant Major C G Miller. The design is astonishingly intricate. The prisoners in Changi established a workshop within the camp to produce most items, such as shoes, artificial limbs, cooking equipment, needed by the men.
