Description
Seen sitting on the ships raft are, left Sapper D. Bryant, 2/4th Australian Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers; centre, an American sapper of 43 U.S.A Engineers; right, Sapper R.Lewis, and back to artist, Sapper R. Briggs of the same unit. The voyage from Milne Bay was punctuated by air alerts and submarine scares. The S.S Bantum is a Dutch K.P.M boat. Oerlikon gun for defending ship is seen in the background.
