Wady bed at Magdhaba
Description
Depicts a view of Wadi el Arish with sand hills and mountains at Magdhaba. Lambert visited this area in March 1918 during his first tour of Palestine. Magdhaba was the scene of a battle on 23 December 1916 when Turkish forces blocking the route to Palestine were attacked by the ANZAC Mounted Division. During the battle for Magdhaba Australian troops had attacked the Turkish defences in the early morning. To capture the light authentically, Lambert rose early in the morning to paint this view of typical country around Magdhaba.
