Rafa from One-Tree Hill
Depicts a view from south east of Hill 255. Rafa is on the border between Egypt and Palestine on the Gaza strip and was captured by the ANZAC Mounted Corps on 9 January 1917. The two graves marked in the foreground are most likely those of New Zealanders. Lambert visited here in March 1918 and wrote: "Unfortunately for the purpose of records the old battle ground was covered with encampments, Salvage dumps, POW enclosures etc so that to get a representation of the ground as it was during the action it was necessary to eliminate all that had grown up during the period between occupation and my arrival."
