Shitting on flag
Description
Crouching soldier wearing plumed hat, with gun carriage. The work is related to 'Dream of the latrine sitter' painted by Nolan while serving in the Army at Dimboola, Victoria in 1942. The artist was bored with army life and longed to go the front line as an official war artist. He embodied his sentiments in a figure 'dreaming' of escaping while sitting on the latrine. This painting is in the Memorial's collection, ART91645.
