Troops' Mess - "Queen Elizabeth"
Description
Designed as the Cabin class restaurant - the main dining hall of the ship - this is probably the largest room afloat at the time. As a troops' mess, seating 14 men to a table, it and the four private dining rooms adjoining, can accommodate 1,910 men at a sitting. At present 1,810 men are being accommodated. This view is from the main entrance, the for'ard end, looking to the kitchens, aft of which is the smaller Tourist dining room where nurses and officers mess. Silver stars decorate the main pillars - one star has been removed - perhaps, as a souvenir.
