Operation at sea - HMT "Duntroon"
Description
An emergency appendix operation on a member of the ship's company during the voyage from Durban to Fremantle. Army doctors, assisted by nursing sisters did the operation in the First Class Dining Saloon during the afternoon. The necessary light came from two large loading lights rigged for the occasion. The operating table was a dining table. A similar operation took place the same night, the patient being a member of the Australian Army Nursing Service, Southern Ocean.
