Dutch cruiser 'Tromp'
Description
The light cruiser HNMS Tromp was one of ten Royal Netherlands Navy warships that saw service in Indonesia during the Second World War. The Tromp was sent to Australia for battle damage repairs just before most of the RNN surface fleet and eight submarines were destroyed in the Battle for the Java Sea. After surviving many battles the Tromp became known to her crew as "the lucky ship". In 1942 the Tromp was sent to Fremantle where she commenced Indian Ocean convoy duties and sailed with Allied fleets on offensive operations and escort missions. In this work the ship is conducting anti-aircraft defence exercises with the assistance of an RAAF Consolidated Catalina flying boat off the West Australian coast.
