Sigs cable laying station
Description
A number of submarine cables were laid between Eta Jima and various points along the coast of the mainland to provide increased telephone channels between British Commonwealth Occupied Forces (BCOF) and Base Headquarters. Lieutenant Buckley of Signals was in charge of operations and skippered the sampan manned by a Japanese crew. This was a most unusual job for a signals cable laying detachment.
